In accordance with all applicable US Government and Abt policies and procedures, it will be your duty as an accountant to carry out the accounting functions in support of all project operations. The accountant will document project financial transactions, post to relevant projects and tasks, create periodic financial statements and reports, and maintain the accuracy of the accounts book records under the supervision of the finance and administrative manager.
Core Responsibilities:
- Keeps track of expenses, earnings, and any associated transactions in an accounting system, making sure that the supporting documentation complies with US and Abt regulations.
- Payroll and other recurring payments are prepared while taking deductions (for taxes, loans, advances, etc.) into account.
- Combines the payment voucher for the necessary signatories to examine and approve.
- Starts electronic bank transactions or mobile money transactions.
- Create bank reconciliations every month.
- Periodically reconciles petty cash accounts and verifies petty cash payments.
- Ensures that the books of accounts are always up to date, orderly, well kept, and readily available for reference and audit, when required.
- Ensure all government taxes are paid on time
- Scan payment packages and all supporting documentation daily before documents are prepared for the payments.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree in business, management, finance, accounting, or a related discipline
- Four years or more of professional experience in program fiscal management and accounting.
- Experience working on overseas development projects is preferred, especially if it comes from US government-funded initiatives.
- A solid understanding of financial and other computer programs, including Access, QuickBooks, Excel, and Microsoft Word.
- Strong and efficient organizational abilities, such as the capacity to multitask and operate under pressure
- Expertise in financial reporting, budget monitoring, payroll administration, and petty cash management.
- Inventory management experience is preferred.
Minimum Qualifications:
Two years of related experience plus a bachelor’s degree, or a master’s degree
